A Leading Public Art Museum Supporting Artistic and Cultural Development in Osaka and Beyond

Located in Tennōji Park, the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts was established with the goal of enriching Osaka’s cultural life by providing citizens with access to outstanding art and supporting the activities of artists.

The main building houses a collection of over 8,700 valuable works, including Japanese and Chinese paintings and sculptures.
In addition, the museum contributes to arts education through exhibitions held by various art organizations in the Tennōji Gallery (formerly the underground exhibition space), as well as through hands-on research programs conducted at its Art Research Institute.

Renewed as an Open and Inclusive Museum

The Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts, originally the former Sumitomo family residence with an attached garden (Keitakuen), was donated to the City of Osaka for the purpose of building an art museum.
Since its opening in May 1936 as the third public art museum in Japan, it has been beloved by citizens as one of Osaka’s leading cultural institutions.

In March 2025 (Reiwa 7), the museum will reopen after its first major renovation since opening.
Reborn as a contemporary “Open Museum,” it will continue to offer opportunities for people to connect with art and culture in new and meaningful ways.

Central Hall

The ceiling, originally finished in white plaster, has been restored and revealed through the recent renovation. At 13 meters high, it creates a majestic, dynamic space that leaves a lasting impression on visitors. The floors and columns are made of marble, enhancing the hall’s grandeur and elegance.

Special Room

Originally designed to welcome distinguished guests from Japan and abroad, this special room is not normally open to the public. Natural light pours in through three tall windows, which overlook a balcony with stunning views of the beautifully landscaped Keitakuen Garden.

Jaurium (Multipurpose Hall)

Featuring a recreated ceiling that allows natural light to fill the space, this hall is ideal for gatherings and events. Its white walls can also be used as a projection screen, making it a flexible venue for various occasions.

Atelier

Located on the third floor of the museum, the atelier includes a glass-partitioned workroom. It is a versatile space suitable for seminars, workshops, and light refreshments, offering many possibilities for creative and educational use.

For Elegant Receptions and Gala Dinners

Host a glamorous event in the Central Hall, which boasts over 300 square meters of floor space, ideal for serving fine cuisine and drinks.
Take advantage of the unique museum atmosphere with art-inspired presentations or live performances that complement the hall’s marble architecture.

For Off-Site Seminars and Meetings

The spacious and open Jaurium room is available even during regular museum hours. Its white walls can serve as projection screens, making it ideal for large-scale seminars and meetings.
After your event, you can seamlessly transition to the adjacent Central Hall for an after-party without the need to change venues.

For Exclusive, Intimate Gatherings in a Luxurious Setting

The Special Room, not open to the general public, is also available for private use during museum hours.
Equipped with a private restroom and a small kitchen, this refined space is perfect for small-scale, closed-door meetings or formal dining in an elegant and exclusive environment.
